A recently released consumer survey showed that the Apple iPhone is Australia's single most popular phone. Although Android has greater overall market share in terms of operating system, no single device has come close to the iPhone.
They are some interesting results, as I have observed the make up of mobile devices amongst my friends to be spread out a lot over Samsung and HTC devices. Pretty much none of my friends actually own an iPhone.

The 2011 Australian Mobile Phone Lifestyle Index revealed that 32% of Australian smartphone users own an iPhone, while 28% use Nokia, with Samsung following at 13%, HTC (8%), Sony Ericsson (5%), LG (4%), Blackberry,Motorola and other brands tied at 3%.
These results are quite similar to what is observed in the USA and Europe, but very different to Asian countries where people prefer cheaper and simpler Nokia phones.

It is the time iPhone's market share has exceeded Nokia's in Australia. We were all used to growing up with Nokia phones at the top, known for their quality and reliability. It indicates the changing preferences of consumers, as they prefer a more powerful Android or iPhone.
The report stated that "there has been a clear shift in handset brand ownership in the last few years. Nokia ownership has been steadily decreasing, as has Motorola, while Apple has been steadily increasing in popularity since the impact of the iPhone release was first captured in 2009" (Aimia, 2011)
According to the report's author, almost half of the 2115 survey respondents said they owned a tablet or planned to purchase one within the next year.
The survey, carried out by a number of mobile phone industry groups, found a strong interest in tablet ownership, particularly among men, who make up 60 percent of tablet owners. This is an interesting result, as I personally know a large amount of females that would like to get a tablet instead of a laptop, because its more cool to use.
