Samsung Nexus Prime

Tuesday, October 11 is a very important day for Google, Android and Samsung.

It marks the tentative release of the next version of Android, known as Ice Cream Sandwich, along with the new Nexus Phone (to be manufactured by Samsung).

After the admittedly disappointing release of the iPhone 4S, a lot of people have now begun questioning whether to make the switch to an Android phone. The exterior hardware upgrade most were expecting, did not come to fruition.

The Nexus Prime, is the follow up to last year's Nexus S (also made by Samsung). The phone is expected to have a major leap in features and software for the Android platform, such as

-720p HD Super AMOLED screen
-Android Ice Cream sandwich, which is expected to combine the phone (Gingerbread) and tablet (Honeycomb) versions of Android.
-Dual core 1.5Ghz Processor
-Full HD output
-"soft keys" which means the phone won't have any physical buttons other than the power and volume keys

It is interesting times ahead in the smartphone industry. With Android now overtaken iOS in terms of market share, and very quickly catching up in terms of app store numbers, the brand recognition associated with Android will definetly increase. We will wait and see.
